Summary: One of the consequences of rheumatic diseases throughout the world is the disability of people. These diseases in their chronic stage constitute a considerable social and economic burden in all societies. There are more than a hundred rheumatic diseases, however, among the top ten is scleroderma. Systemic sclerosis is the most serious type of scleroderma, capable of affecting many of the body's systems. Due to its myriad signs and symptoms, its management is an increasing challenge for rheumatologists and physicians in related specialties. The main purpose of this study is to draw an outline about the generalities of Systemic Sclerosis, with emphasis on its main signs and symptoms. The research model is a bibliographic documentary type review. The most common initial symptoms and signs of systemic sclerosis are Raynaud's phenomenon and insidious swelling of the distal extremities with gradual thickening of the skin of the fingers. But it also presents systemic manifestations, mainly affecting the pulmonary, cardiovascular, digestive and renal systems. Systemic sclerosis is a systemic and autoimmune disease, with a rare presence in the population, however, with high morbidity and mortality and a significant decrease in the quality of life of people who suffer from it. It is imperative to recognize its initial clinical manifestations along with both cutaneous and systemic complications, which appear as this disease evolves. Its early diagnosis and prescription of treatment is a determining factor in improving the quality of life of patients.
