Summary: The study of Law has been related in recent years to the environmental issue. Mexico is recent in this area and therefore, Baja California Sur too. Currently, the State has several direct and indirectly environmental laws. Therefore, the objective of this study is the evaluation of environmental protection in the Mexican Legal System in the coastal area of Baja California Sur. Through the methodological proposal for the identification and classification of the environmental laws of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, the normative instruments that can be classified as environmental laws have been identified. Through the exploration stage, the following results have been obtained: The Law on Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture, the Law on Ecological Balance and Environmental Protection, the Law on Sustainable Forest Development, the Law on Sustainable Rural Development and the Water Law, all of the State of Baja California Sur. In the analysis stage, the standards will be analyzed by lexical attributes and the environmental agency, as well as by their scope. Our legal analysis indicates that the Laws currently in force concerning the issue of environmental protection of the coastal zone must be substantially modified and this work specifies which should be totally repealed, which should change the wording of particular subsections, indicating how, and in what Existing laws must include new chapters. The application of our recommendations will allow the current legal framework to be harmonized and with it, contribute to sustainable development and effective environmental protection of coastal ecosystems.
