Summary: This paper carries out an analysis in relation to the rights of animals in Mexico, focusing on domestic animals as they are one of the most vulnerable species and subject to various acts of cruelty. For which the evolution of animal rights was investigated, beginning with the analysis of the various religious cultures to determine the affective or useful value that is given to said species; likewise, it enters the study of the historical process to know how they were protected in antiquity; in addition, the theoretical currents of natural law and iuspositivism that support the importance of recognizing the rights of animals in order to protect their physical integrity and well-being are studied; finally, the legal panorama is visualized to determine which States of the Republic recognize them as sentient beings and their impact on the current legal regulations.
