Summary: The number of thefts and robberies in agricultural and livestock holdings by organized delinquency groups and criminal gangs are progressively increasing. The theft of crops, livestock, machinery, fuel and agricultural and livestock infrastructures are an important source of profit for these mafias or criminal gangs. This type of crime causes farmers and ranchers to not only suffer losses in their production but also have to cover the significant costs of the damages caused by the delinquents. Furthermore, this type of crime creates an added risk to the health of the consumers due to the sale, via black markers, of foods that have not passed any health inspections.
