The present study used the case of Ajijic, Jalisco, focusing on the interactions between foreign nationals and local inhabitants and analyzing the social imaginaries that have developed in the latter with regard to both them-selves and the former, as well as the roles played by memory and changes in collective identity and space. The results are taken from 42 semistructured interviews conducted with both foreign nationals and local inhabitants, revealing that the latter accept the presence of the former, who represent an economic benefit to local people and provide them an identity distinct to other communities in the region.
