Summary: Root canal desobturation is a daily procedure, therefore its execution must be performed with harmless instruments and materials to avoid tissue damages. The use of gutta-percha solvents such as orange oil is one of the methods employed to eliminate the root canal content; it has proven to be effective for this purpose. The objective of this research is to establish the effectiveness of orange oil in the desobturation of root canals. The methodology applied was qualitative, experimental and descriptive. For this study, 60 single-rooted and double-rooted teeth were used with root canal treatment in which six drops of essential orange oil were placed. From the results obtained, it was observed that the calculation made in canal desobturation had a correlation coefficient 0.96, thus obtaining very reliable data in the investigation. In all, orange oil is a very effective solvent in gutta-percha desobturation.
