Summary: |
The surgical management of diverticular disease will depend on the severity that is present, a correct diagnosis of the disease is what will determine it, as well as the clinical and imaging elements that confirm the initial evaluations. There are two types of diverticular disease. One is uncomplicated diverticular disease, which does not require surgical treatment, and complicated acute diverticulitis, which, depending on its degree, generally in stages III and IV requires surgical procedures. The HINCHEY classification is used to classify the stages. The research methodology is a bibliographic review, which relied on electronic means available on the web for the extraction of the most relevant information by the end of the present work. There are surgical procedures that can generate complications, which is why post-surgical surveillance is very important. Among some of the available procedures are: Hartmann operation, resection with primary anastomosis with or without protective ostomy and lavage laparoscopic drainage of the abdominal cavity, however the performance of any of them will depend on how severe the diverticulitis is While not neglecting age and other pathologies present in the patient, however, one of the safest procedures is resection of the sigmoid plus primary anastomosis for acute diverticulitis. |
