Summary: |
The objective of this work is to make a brief but concise analysis of the New Law on Food Labeling in Chile, also known as the “Ley Super 8”, which aims to regulate the labeling of food, its packaging and advertising when targeted at children under 14. This new regulation seeks to reduce the consumption of foods with high rates of calories, saturated fats, sugars and sodium, given the problem of childhood obesity in Chile. The author will review the changes that this new legislation has produced in terms of publicity, sanitary regulation and the penalties that the infractions would entail, and will comment on the effectiveness of this law. |
