Summary: The government’s role in managing disaster risk has changed over time: from the fact of acting as solely responsible and in a reactive manner, to the current approach that promotes co-management with other actors at different levels and between different sectors, articulated through governance mechanisms that allow complex issues to be addressed comprehensively and provide at the same time greater institutional capacity. Recently a new law that gives birth to the National System for Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection has been approved in Argentina. In this new institutional context, this article aims to analyze the Argentinean regulatory framework against integrative risk management, highlighting its scopes, limitations and challenges following the governance approach and international directives on disaster risk reduction.
