Summary: In this analysis of federalism, firstly the basic conceptual framework is deciphered. In this sense, the nature of federal state is resolved, what is political decentralization and what is administrative deconcentration is also explained and what is demos and what is demoi is also analyzed. In addition, in this paper, it is analysed if it is centripetal process or a centrifugal dynamic. Second, the four spheres of federalism are distinguished: political institutions, political culture, party system and public policies. Fourfold federalism has a social impact that serves to discern how entrenched it is in empirical terms. Third, there is a distinction between national federalism and plurinational federalism. All this applies to the territorial organization of the Spanish State.
