Summary: In the last fifty years, the transformations of European cities have been accompanied and conditioned by the growing interest in using culture as a tool for your regeneration and development. This study aims to analyze the origins and evolution –especially in Spanish cities– of the expansion of urban cultural policies and of those projects launched that seek to promote culture as a regenerative and integrating element in the urban environment. It is necessary to observe, then, if these actions act as catalysts for change in cities and what are the effects and results achieved from a multidisciplinary perspective. For this, the paper focuses on analyzing the case of the City of Culture of Galicia, an architectural complex located in the city of Santiago de Compostela, with the maximum objective of becoming a project factory that energizes the fabric of cultural industries Galician and that causes an interconnection of national and international networks of knowledge and creativity.
