Political corruption is one of the main concerns of the Spaniards, but the assessment of its real weight suffers from sufficient empirical studies. The authors design a territorial map of the cases detected in the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, as well as identify their evolution from 1978 to 2000. The paper seeks to know the methods used by the convicted and the amount of economic damage caused. Thus, political corruption in the Archipelago, during the first 25 years of life of the Spanish Constitution and in contrast to its extension during the 21st century, has been of low profile, with a territorial distribution proportional to the population based on unconnected cases , and without weighing on the authors an excessive social rejection, combining situations of convicts firmly returning to political activity after serving their sentences, with innocent unjustly denounced who had to leave. |
