Summary: In many ways, the impact of COVID-1 is still being studied. Regarding the economy, it could be said that it is the second most important aspect after that of health. Economic systems around the world have been strongly affected by this pan-demic, and the Latin American region has been perhaps the hardest hit of all. In this context, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are obviously not an exception, since, logically, due to their own characteristics, they would be the ones that receive the greatest impact in the first instance from this new pandemic. However, all is not lost, because it is precisely in this type of circumstances where strategic planning can make the difference between sustainability and success in a certain period or the failure and unavoidable closure of operations of a company. The initiative to develop this research is based on the concern to update the knowledge that approximately serves to understand what is the situation that occurs in Ecuadorian SMEs regarding the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic is causing in their recent planning. strategic. For this, it has been chosen to develop a documentary design research with which it was sought to find different types of sources that support the pre-established approach, through a bibliographic review methodology. In conclusion, the first results are tending to value beyond the negative impact of COVID-19 on companies because, if such circumstance is assumed as an opportunity that is serving for them to reevaluate their productivity and the use of technology in their processes for the purpose of improving their management practices and procedures, then without a doubt this pandemic is also producing certain positive results.
