Summary: Acute pancreatitis corresponds to a pathology of great clinical relevance, the importance of correct management of radi-cals in avoiding complications and recurrences of the disease, the approach begins with a correct anamnesis and physical examination based on the symptoms, which includes abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. The etiology is not defined, however, biliary lithiasis and high alcohol consumption are mentioned as priorities. The pancreatic self-digestion process is part of the pathophysiology of the disease. Treatment focuses on resting the organ, restricting oral intake initially, however, there are new recommendations regarding enteral nutrition and total parenteral nutrition that are better oriented on this top-ic. Antibiotic use is limited to processes and unfavorable evolution, analgesic management and aggressive hydration are part of primary medical treatment. The surgical and endoscopic approach is recommended only in limited cases.
