Summary: The principle of parity and the alternation mechanism should be applied with a conventional focus of human rights fully acknowledging the gender identity of Trans people which leads to using their self-perceived gender to run for popular election posts according to Consultative Opinion 24 of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. This focus cannot be binary since this Opinion excludes nonbinary people under the Trans umbrella. Thus, their gender identity must be acknowledged in order not to violate related rights such as privacy and political participation
