This article comes from the research process carried out for the establishment of those competences and makes reference to the research competence because of its relevant importance in the development of the training processes in Law. A brief introduction, planning of the competence concept as well as, associated performances with investigative and prospective research competences in the Law Programs will be presented in this article.En Colombia, a partir del 2009 el ICFES inició un proceso de reestructuración de la evaluación de los programas de educación superior, denominada PRUEBAS SABER PRO, que obviamente incluye los programas de derecho del país. Como parte de este proceso y a través de un grupo de expertos, se establecieron las competencias genéricas en las que serán evaluados todos los estudiantes universitarios, y se dieron lineamientos para establecer las competencias específi cas de algunos de los programas de pregrado como las áreas de administración, salud y derecho, por tratarse de los programas que mayor número de evaluados aporta nacionalmente. Este artículo deviene del proceso de investigación realizado para el establecimiento de dichas competencias y hace referencia a la competencia investigativa por ser de relevante importancia en el desarrollo de los procesos de formación en derecho.
