Summary: The study addresses the need to make a critical exam of the relationship between the theoretical conception and the practice of restorative justice and, specifically, to pay attention to the importance of language on both levels. Based on a review of the fundamental vocabulary of restorative justice theory, a balance is made of the results of program evaluation studies. From this basis an evaluation model is presented that allows reviewing the degree to which the restorative objectives of a program have been achieved in each specific process. The conclusions are oriented towards the need to develop new restorative programs in the Spanish-speaking countries from an attitude that leads to exceeding the current legal and, above all, mental framework. Keywords
