Summary: In the last decades, the transformations of the production system and the technological innovation due to the digitalization have caused a significant growth of the autonomous work. The emergence of these new forms of work is accompanied by new social needs and new demands for protection. The article analyzes the reactions of the Italian legislator, doctrine and jurisprudence to this redefinition of the internal borders of the economically dependent work to try to understand if what is being done is an adaptation of labor law to the changing social situation, one of the many it has been gone throughout its history, or if, on the contrary, there is a deeper change in its underlying coordinates.
