Summary: Mental disorders represent the third main cause of social security benefit grant for disabilities in Brazil. The occupational exposure to psychosocial stress factors can jeopardize the mental health of workers. Mental disorders affect individuals in having access to the job market as well as in maintaining themselves there. Therefore, topics such as mental health and job need further attention. This study aims to quantify the granting for disability benefits related to mental disorders in the West region of the state of Santa Catarina, between the years 2014 and 2018. Findings point out as mental disorders indicators the depressive episodes, the Alcohol Dependence Syndrome, depressive disorders, and anxiety. These are the most frequent reasons for granting social security disability benefits in the West region of Santa Catarina. These data show the importance of preventive measures implementation against the incidence of these disorders.
