Summary: Abstract Human rights defenders are fundamental actors in every society. In Colombia, their work of protection, promotion and guarantee of human rights has been indispensable in times of violence and armed conflict, which is why they have been the object of constant aggression and threats because of the exercise of their work. This article seeks to propose a comprehensive legal framework for the protections of human rights defenders through a critical analysis of the prevention and protection actions of human rights defenders contained in Colombian legislation, the functions and competences assigned to each entity and the perspectives that have the implementation of the Final Agreement for the Termination of the Conflict and the Building of a Stable and Lasting Peace where a scenario full of opportunities is opened to demand from the National Government that it articulate all existing programs in a tripartite integral protection mechanism composed of three axes (prevention, protection and research) as a development of a comprehensive legal framework and a public policy on human rights.
