The article analyzes the phenomenon of grey areas in a comparative perspective between the theory of international relations and public international law. First, a review is made of its implications for the Rule of Law and the challenges they represent for international security. In a second moment the theoretical discussion will be approached, from a case study, regarding the concept of State sovereignty between international law and the theoretical paradigms of international relations, the previous from the analysis of the so-called Zone of the Triple Frontier of Para and its growing problem of transnational organized crime. Finally, an attempt will be made to propose an answer to the question about the scope of the notion of sovereignty in the contemporary international context.

Com base em uma abordagem metodológica descritiva, primeiro é feita uma delimitação do conceito de zona cinza a partir de uma revisão da literatura existente, identificando suas implicações para o Estado de Direito e os desafios que eles representam para a segurança internacional. Num segundo momento, a partir de um estudo de caso, será abordada a discussão sobre o conceito de soberania do Estado entre o direito internacional e a teoria do realismo das relações internacionais, a partir da análise da chamada Zona de a Tríplice Fronteira do Pará e seu crescente problema do crime organizado transnacional. Por fim, tentaremos propor uma resposta à pergunta sobre o alcance da noção de soberania no contexto internacional contemporâneo.El artículo realiza un análisis del fenómeno de las zonas grises en una perspectiva comparada entre la teoria de las relaciones internacionales y derecho internacional público. A partir de un enfoque metodologico descriptivo, primero se hace una delimitacion del concepto de zona gris a partir de una revision de la literatura exisente identificando cuales son sus implicaciones para el Estado de Derecho y los desafios que estas representan para la seguridad internacional. En un segundo momento se abordará, desde un estudio de caso, la discusión que respecto al concepto de soberanía del Estado se presenta entre el derecho internacional y la teoría del realismo de las relaciones internacionales, lo anterior a partir del análisis de la denominada Zona de la Triple Frontera de Para y su creciente problemática de delincuencia organizada transnacional.
