Summary: Based on the national survey about perception of Costa Rican emigration, which took place in October 2017, and was carried out by the Institute of Social Studies in Population (IDESPO), which researched, among other indicators, the perception Costa Ricans have about the exercise of the citizenry abroad. Prior to comparing actual data regarding the participation and percentage of voter abstention, the article presents the results of the perception concerning voting abroad. The survey was carried out by phone and it included 900 homes from Costa Rica with a landline connection. The survey was applied to Costa Ricans, 18 years of age or older, and nationalized citizens, 18 years of age or older. The survey had a reliability level of 95% and a margin of error of + 3,1%
