Summary: This article is the product of the research “Evaluating the impact of theenvironmental and educational management system at the Universidad Católica del Oriente.A perspective analysis of university environmental duty”. At first, a theoretical analysis ismade on the relationship between the change of constitutional paradigm from retributivejustice to distributive justice and its consequences for the defense of environmental rightsand the social development of the population. It is questioned whether this change impliesonly the role of the institutionality in the process, emphasizing the judges and effectivejudicial protection. Finally, it is concluded that, in this process that began in 1991 when Colombia became aSocial State based on the rule of law, the university, as an institution that trains professionals, must take its environmental and social duty as a quality system and lead to the classrooms, the safeguarding of environmental rights and social development, in order to contributeto the society development.
