In this context, this paper presented the policies that have been implemented successfully in New Zealand for the protection and promotion of the rights of indigenous Maoris. For that, a bibliographical and documentary research was done in New Zealand doctrine and legislation. Thus, the purpose was to contribute to the improvement of the Brazilian legal system, given the comparative law constitute a valuable source of knowledge and experience, offering alternatives to solve the problems that the Brazilian Democratic State must face to ensure the realization of the fundamental rights of all its citizens.A consolidação de um Estado Democrático exige não apenas o reconhecimento da sua diversidade, mas também a implementação de políticas públicas capazes de garantir a eficácia social dos direitos fundamentais das minorias que o compõem. Nesse contexto, o presente trabalho visou apresentar as políticas públicas que vêm sendo exitosamente implementadas na Nova Zelândia para a proteção e a promoção dos direitos dos indígenas Maoris. Para tal, foi realizada pesquisa bibliográfica e documental na doutrina e na legislação neozelandesa.
