Summary: The present investigation analyzes the determinants of the perception of corruption as a social problem in Mexico. We used the National Quality and Government Impact Survey of 2017 from which the determinants of the perception of corruption were taken according to the theoretical and empirical literature. We used a Logit model to evaluate the determinants in the perception of corruption. The results suggest that a good performance of institutions, and a better quality in general public services and public on demand services, coupled with an increase in institutional trust; help to reduce the likelihood of perceiving corruption as one of the main social problems in Mexico. Also, a greater social participation is necessary for a better institutional performance and the increase of social welfare
