Summary: Environmental certification in Brazil has grown significantly in recent years, especially in the face of current environmental tragedies. This study intends to demonstrate that most of the certifications seek to maximize profit rather than effective environmental protection. Therefore, there must be a paradigm change on environmental compliance, so that environmental certification is ensured by effective methods. Using a theoretical-documentary methodology, with deduction technique, this paper demonstrated that compliance is one of the best transparency instruments in the legislation within an institution, passing through a change in the personal motivation of the economic agents
