With the rising importance of the Colombian refugee population in Ecuador during the last decade, developed in parallel with the growth of the regular migrant popu­lation, it is very important for this issue to be understood as a crucial element in knowledge of migration flows to Ecuador. Through a comparison between the regular and irregular flows of migration, this work aims to analyze the creation of a national migration policy in Ecuador under a historical and economic framework of this phenomenon.El propósito central de este trabajo consiste en demostrar cómo el marco institucional y económico del Estado ecuatoriano ha gene­rado garantías para que la población colom­biana migre hacia este país y para que, sobre todo, se genere una transición del estatus de los refugiados colombianos en pro de su vin­culación socioeconómica en Ecuador. Ante la creciente relevancia de la población refugiada colombiana en Ecuador durante la última década, desarrollada paralelamente con un crecimiento de la población migrante regular, es de gran importancia el abordaje de este tema como un elemento crucial para la comprensión de las migraciones hacia Ecuador.
