In the early 80’s, the Parliament supported the Moroccan thesis. But throughout the decade, this position changed towards a support of the self-determination of the Western Sahara people. In the 90’s, after a crisis between Morocco and the EU, the European Parliament adopted a more moderate posture about the issue. In the 00’s, the Parliament drew attention to human rights and exploitation of natural resources issues, supported the Baker Plan, the Corell Opinion about the exploitation of natural resources in Western Sahara, and requested for the inclusion of the human rights monitoring in MINURSO. In the 10’s the European Chamber pays less attention to the Western Sahara conflict.En este artículo tenemos como objetivo ofrecer una visión de conjunto de la evolución del posicionamiento del Parlamento Europeo ante el conflicto del Sáhara Occidental, desde los orígenes del conflicto hasta el año 2018. Hemos comprobado que la Cámara comenzó con una postura favorable a Marruecos, que fue cambiando, durante los años ochenta, hacia una firme defensa de la autodeterminación del pueblo saharaui. Sin embargo, en los años noventa, tras una crisis política con Marruecos, el Parlamento ha ido moderando este apoyo, de forma paulatina. A partir del 2000, la Cámara prestó atención a otras dimensiones del conflicto, como los derechos humanos, la ayuda a los refugiados o la aplicación en el Sáhara Occidental de diversos Acuerdos celebrados entre la Unión Europea y Marruecos, apoyó la aplicación del Plan Baker como solución al conflicto, defendió la Opinión Corell en materia de explotación de recursos naturales en el Sáhara Occidental y pidió que la MINURSO incluya la supervisión de los derechos humanos en su mandato.
