The purpose was to analyze the role played by the University as an important agent of socialization in the life of the population of the region. To study this issue has allowed to know how appropriate are the teachers and students about the Regional Autonomy, since being established as a transversal axis, beside been reflected in the curriculum, it should become an innovative practice. The focus was qualitative, the population and sample were selected by convenience. Information was gathered through interviews, focus groups and documentary observation guide. The results reflected the changes in knowledge and appropriation that the students and teachers have in relation to the Regional Autonomy. It was determined that not all the curricula of the careers imparted by URACCAN have contents and objectives related to the Regional Autonomy, although most are layout as educational objectives. Este estudio ha abordado la Autonomía Regional como eje transversal en los currículos de las carreras de Sociología, Administración de Empresas y Zootecnia, que se imparten en la Universidad de las Regiones Autónomas de la Costa Caribe Nicaragüense, URACCAN, Nueva Guinea. El propósito fue analizar el papel que ha desempeñado la Universidad como agente de socialización relevante en la vida de la población de la región. El estudio de esta temática ha permitido conocer la apropiación que tienen los docentes y estudiantes sobre la Autonomía Regional puesto que al estar establecido como eje transversal, este debe reflejarse además de en el currículo, en una práctica innovadora. El enfoque fue cualitativo, la población y muestra se seleccionaron por conveniencia. La información se obtuvo a través de entrevistas, grupos focales y guía de observación documental. En los resultados se reflejaron las variaciones en cuanto al conocimiento y apropiación que tienen los estudiantes y docentes en relación a la Autonomía Regional.
