Summary: Academic development, debate promoted by international organizations and women’s movement, has initially oriented the gender studies to analyze the inequalities, barriers and limitations that women face in order to access the public world from which they were traditionally excluded. After several decades, new public issues originated in the private sphere are recognized. Recently, studies of care have taken on strength as a research area from the perspective of gender, showing others important inequalities between men and women rooted in the private sphere: needs as old as invisible, as is caring. This article reviews the implications that those needs have for public policies, integrating the gender and rights approach, analyzing the situation in Chile
