Summary: |
The present study assessed the modifications on indicators of pshychophysiologic fatigue in 24 air traffic controllers exposed to radar screen. Tests used as indicators were: Blood Pressure, Heart Rate Variability, Manual Skill and Precision, and Yoshitake Subjective Fatigue Symptoms. The tests were applied to all subjects in three distinc moments during the workday and under two different condictions: the first, while at work in the Radar Screen Control Aerea; and the second, while carrying out administrative tasks. Additional aspects such as individual general health conditions, characteristics of the work environment, and work activities were assessed. According to the Subjective Fatigue Symptoms Test, a greater percentatge of fatigue was found in air controllers assigned to the Radar Screen Control Area. The Heart Rate Variability Test revealed that 50% were fatigued at the start of and throughout the workday. The Manual Skill and Precision Test showed a decreased in 50% of the air controllers at the three workday contacts. A major percentage of these workers demonstrated increased blood pressure after two hours of exposure to the radar screen. Inferential analysis of data did not indicate significant differences between workers in administrative tasks and workers in radar screen tasks. |
