Summary: The results of the general elections of 2015 and 2016 in Spain led to a reconfiguration of the party system, moving from an imperfect two-party system to a fragmented multi-party system. These results are in apparent contradiction with the hitherto proven capacity of the electoral system of the Congress of Deputies to manufacture parliamentary majorities. The article analyses the real impact of the electoral system on the results of 2015 and 2016 and its possible influence on the future evolution of the party system.
