In this scenario, the invocation of virtue, as was suggested by Machiavelli, remains valid. Resetting politics based on plural deliberation and engagement with the virtues of excellence, veracity and authenticity, may allow the overcoming of wealth and fortune. At the very least, this is necessary if we want to avoid the sharp edges of anti-politics and to fight populism, the disturbing shadow of democracy.El artículo analiza la vigencia del pensamiento maquiavélico con la finalidad de enjuiciar de forma propositiva nuestro tiempo. Un tiempo, convulso e inestable, en el que la alianza entre fortuna y antipolítica agrega una extraordinaria fuerza desestabilizadora. En este escenario, la invocación a la virtud, tal y como propuso Maquiavelo, sigue teniendo validez. Restablecer una política basada en la deliberación plural y en el compromiso con las virtudes de la ejemplaridad, la veracidad y la autenticidad, puede permitir ganar la partida a la fortuna.
