Then, we will address some of the most relevant competencies and organizational aspects. In addition, it analyzes its meager role in the Court of Justice and, finally, studies the relations of cooperation with the Court of Auditors of Spain. Draws attention the little regard from the scientific, European and Spanish, doctrine on this institution in comparison with others (compared to the Court of Justice is overwhelming). Serve this work to show its complex function and provide the reader with a reference to the relevant literature on this subject.El control externo de las cuentas en la Unión Europea está atribuido a su Tribunal de Cuentas en cooperación con las Entidades Fiscalizadoras Superiores de los Estados miembros. En este trabajo nos ocuparemos de su creación y evolución histórico-normativa hasta su consagración tardía2 como institución de pleno derecho, incluyendo una breve referencia a la situación anterior. A continuación, abordaremos algunos de sus aspectos competenciales y organizativos más relevantes. Además, se analiza su exiguo papel en la jurisprudencia del Tribunal de Justicia y, por último, estudiaremos las relaciones de cooperación con el Tribunal de Cuentas de España. Es significativa la escasa aten- ción por parte de la doctrina científica, europea y española, sobre esta institución en relación con otras (la comparación con el Tribunal de Justicia resulta abrumadora).
