Summary: In this paper, we will make first, a brief analysis of theevolution of the political representation model. Similarly, we will examinethe most relevant elements that directly influence the allegedcrisis of that model. Along with this, we will review how political representationand citizen participation in a representative democracycoexist in a party system, focusing specifically on the analysis aboutthe influence that could lead to the inclusion in our legal system of amechanism of direct democracy. Therefore, we will try to elucidatethe potential benefits that this could produce in strengthening thedemocratic system. Finally, we will expose the popular initiative andthe possible political and legal complications that would involve itsincorporation into the political and national legal system.
