Summary: The criminal process against the extradited formerPresident of Perú Alberto Fujimori, who ruled the country from 1990to 2000, was a shock to the public opinion and the political forces.Naturally, the legal domain was the battlefield where supporters andopponents of the former ruler faced each other. Many believed thatthe decision of the Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court wouldput an end to the subject, but the experience of the following yearshas showed that is has not been the case. The pardon was formallyrequested by Fujimori family to the Justice Department, wherebysome of the topics with which we deal in this paper were discussed:the legal nature of pardon in Peruvian and International HumanRights Law, and the imprescriptibility of crimes against humanity.
