Summary: This article aims to contribute with reflections on the theme of sustainability from an interdisciplinary perspective. The proposal is to demonstrate that it is not possible to understand the meaning and scope of this category only from the perspective of disciplinary knowledge and emphasize the need for a revitalized rediscovery of the interrelationship of human and non-human elements that make up the Earth, from the integral ecology. The article begins with reflections on the production of interdisciplinary knowledge in the humanities and social sciences; it continues, analyzing the sustainability in its various dimensions and, at the end, it proposes a sustainability based on integral ecology and global empathy. In order to meet the proposed objective, the research constitutes a theoretical test, conducted from bibliographical research to search for grants to inductive approach arguments.
