However, in order to comply with the UN resolutions of the Conference on Women, the country has approved the quota law for women in the candidatures, which has proved to be inefficient. This article refers to the historical development of the feminist search for political rights to demonstrate that it was not for lack of political action that women are limited in representative positions. Obstacles and challenges in the social structure are continuous in terms of acquiring better and broader political spaces. Thus, the central objective of this essay is to discuss which measures are capable of increasing female participation in the current Brazilian electoral model. So, an analyzes of the Indian experience in the quotas policy in seats in the legislatures was made, assessing the possibility of its application in Brazil.O Brasil é um país que subestima a representação política feminina, sendo um dos últimos colocados comparativamente quanto ao número de mulheres no Parlamento. Todavia, buscando se adequar às resoluções da ONU da Conferência sobre mulheres, o país aprovou a lei de cotas para mulheres nas candidaturas, que tem se mostrado ineficiente. Esse artigo recorre ao desenvolvimento histórico da busca feminina por direitos políticos para demonstrar que não foi por ausência de atuação política que as mulheres encontram-se limitadas nos cargos representativos. Entraves e desafios da estrutura social são contínuos no plano da aquisição de melhores e mais amplos espaços políticos. Assim, o objetivo central desse ensaio é debater quais medidas capazes de aumentar a participação feminina no atual modelo eleitoral brasileiro.
