Summary: In performance of hostilities within the Colombian armed conflict sex violence and genre violence are of a common occurrence, not only as a way of satisfying libidinous interests, or injury because of belonging to a genre, as the case may be, but such attacks have turned into war strategies, with such diverse purposes such as territorial control, forced displacement, or revenge against real members or supposed of the adversary group. In spite of the fact that sex violence and genre violence are different phenomena, various theoretic postures have placed them either as ways of genre and specie, or as excluding phenomena among themselves. Therefore, the purpose is to assist in clarifying concepts, with special emphasis on differentiating notes and similarity between sex violence and genre violence from the armed conflict view. It is a qualitative legal research, supported on secondary sources, such as domestic and international standards, legal opinions, and doctrine sources on the topic approached in this writing. In essence, this article establishes the main differentiating criterions and similarity between genre violence and sex violence, in order to contribute in the discussion on these ways of violence in performance of hostilities within the armed conflict in Colombia.
