Summary: This paper provides an analysis of the origin, the situation and the factors that the issue of Fragile States pose in the international arena. Its study focuses on the case of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) since it is a paradigmatic case of a Fragile State. The background of the problem of this country is based on the fact that it is rich in natural resources, concretely DRC is coveted for mineral resources. Although this issue is old, it acquires particular relevance today for the growing demand for a type of primary raw materials in the present state of economic and technological development in an era of accelerated globalization. This paper also outlines and critically assesses some of the initiatives being taken to remedy this situation in the case of countries that possess abundant natural resources, either at the international, regional and even national level. This is a problem that will be repeated and multiplied in the coming years due to the accelerated development caused by the effects of globalization.
