Summary: The analysis of voting behavior is one of the most important and prolific branches within political science. The objective of this work is to first conduct a descriptive analysis of the electoral process within the Canarian Parliament elections from 1999 to 2007, with particular emphasis on two concepts barely addressed in the discipline: the dual voting and differential abstention. These phenomena have been studied mainly in Catalonia, and which are characterized by "changing their vote in between the legislative and the autonomic elections" (Montero and Font 1991:7). After this analysis, an electoral behavior profile of the people in the Canary Islands can be outlined which is characterized by a level of participation that is lower than the Spanish mean, a greater dispersion of the vote and an effective number of the parties, almost twice the national. There is a high level of volatility between the last two elections. There is no significant differential abstention , with greater participation at national elections, and a dual voting behavior in which national parties clearly see an increase in their electoral support in the general election and vice versa with the nationalist parties
