Summary: The Mexican constitutional reform in regard to political and electoral issues, which was approved by Congress in December 2013, reconfigured the model of distribution of competencies that, in terms of political and electoral matters, had characterized the federal pact since 1946. The article offers a panoramic view of some of the fundamental aspects of this process of constitutional reform, particularly the disappearance of the IFE, Electoral Federal Institute, and its subsequent replacement by the National Electoral Institute, INE, which in essence kept the attributes and structure of IFE.
