Summary: The article explores the potential of new urban social movements to build up alternative models of urban development. Socio-institutional dynamics associated with a social housing project promoted by the Movimiento de Trabajadores Comunitarios (MTC) in the city of Luján, located in the third metropolitan crown of Buenos Aires metropolitan region, are analyzed. Our results reveal the socially innovative character of the implemented strategies and the need to encourage new rationalities of governance for the strengthening and scaling of such initiatives.
