Summary: Case law in Colombia has granted more guarantees for the rights of transsexual persons deprived of their liberty in prisons and correctional centers. This article presents the results of the research carried out in the penitentiary and prison of Villavicencio, Meta, where it was studied the way that transsexual people exercise their rights and if there should be a special pavilion for them. The methodology was descriptive, with a qualitative and analytical approach. Four people of the 16 identified in the institution as LGBTI people participated being a homosexual woman, a transvestite female, a gay man and a transvestite male. The main result showed that, for now, it is not necessary the creation of a special transgender pavilion and there is increasingly greater tolerance with the LGBTI community within the prison facility.
