Laburpena: Spain and the countries of southern Europe have been severely affected by a crisis that has even threatened the pervivence of the euro and has shown the weaknesses arising from imperfect legal design of the Economic and Monetary Union. Many reforms have been undertaken to achieve a higher level of economic integration in order to overcome the economic crisis. This paper aims to assess the current situation of the Economic and Monetary Union after these reforms, by analyzing regulatory developments in the areas of financial assistance and economic coordination and discipline. After that, the article is meant to answer whether these reforms have been accompanied by deficiencies that could affect the future of the Economic and Monetary Union, by noticing the imperfections and challenges that the current Economic and Monetary Union is facing and that must be overcome to ensure the success of the European integration project
