This paper takes up its appearance and development. Besides, it shows its present activities and the problems with official justice. So as to achieve it, we use the qualitative methodology, interviews and discourse analysis.Las Rondas Urbanas son una asociación de vecinos que en el año 2003 iniciaron sus actividades en la ciudad de Cajamarca. Inicialmente se formaron con la finalidad de prevenir actos delincuenciales, pero con el transcurrir del tiempo fueron ganando solidez y credibilidad de la población, motivo por el cual, en la actualidad, también se dedican a resolver conflictos entre los ciudadanos, convirtiéndose en un sistema de justicia extraoficial. El artículo documenta las circunstancias que hicieron posible su aparición, además de presentar las principales actividades a las que se dedican en la actualidad y los problemas que tienen con la justicia formal.
