Sumario: In the late eighteenth century Spanish American cities are reexamining the problem of governance of their rural lands. They used a new political language and called for the implementation of specific figures (jueces comisionados y jueces pedáneos) to complement the work of the mayors of the brotherhood. These figures were not included in the "Real Ordenanza de Intendentes". This paper provides an overview of the emergence of low rural magistrates in Santa Fe during the "intendential" period and identifies some of their specificities and differences.
