Summary: Law and violence: A controversial relationship thought from Nietzsche and FoucaultIt is proposed to revise the notions of law and violence that occur (mainly) in the texts:Genealogy of Morals (1978) and The Gay Science (1974) Nietzsche, and Truth andlegal forms (1973) Discipline and Punish birth of the Prison (2005) Michel Foucault. Thenotions of strong and weak, or aristocrats and commoners are addressed. The relationshipbetween cruelty, memory and forgetting is analyzed. Nietzsche’s idea of the justification ofpunishment as a post construction that legitimizes a primitive aristocratic violence resumes.It also discusses the relationship power-knowledge-violence Truth and legal forms. Finally,throughout the text the influence of Nietzsche’s thought outlined in the work of Foucault.
