Summary: The economic crisis in Spain requires deep reflection about how social policies are responding to an increasing demand of fundamental needs with a shortage of resources. In this context, the vulnerability of the foreign population is a particular concern. Although in recent years there has been a slight decline in foreign population, the fact that as of 2013 an 11.8% of the population was foreign, requires an upgrade in the services and benefits designed to meet the needs (in many cases, specific) of this population group. An increase in resources to promote the integration is essential to maintain levels of social cohesion stipulated in our Constitution. To that purpose, a reorientation of +Social Services results key. On these pages we question the connection between immigration and social services, analyzing the emerging socio- economic structures and the new demands derived from this situation based on the analysis carried out in various secondary sources such as INE statistics, the Ministry of Employment and Social Security, the Ministry of Public Healthcare, Social Services and Equal Rights together with the social vulnerability reports made by NGO’s as Intermon Oxfam, Caritas and The Red Cross, and documentation published by international organizations such as the ILO and IOM.
