Summary: This article discusses the promotion of equality between women and men and women's rights under International Law. First, it focuses on some of the criticisms made of International Law, and its mode of creation, within mainstream feminist scholarship. Subsequently, the article analyzes the international legal framework, adopted at the universal level, designed to ensure equality between the sexes. For this purpose, reference is made to both the general and the specific framework for the protection of women's rights as provided for under the rules of the International Law of Human Rights. Particular attention is given to legal standards aimed at protecting women in times of armed conflict, that is, the rules of International Humanitarian Law, and acts of criminal violence perpetrated against women as defined under International Criminal Law.
